Travel Grants

 

The Los Angeles Chapter awards Student Travel Grants to two biennial conferences: the ACS International Conference and the Society for Marine Mammalogy Conference.

The American Cetacean Society’s International Conference is a three-day conference attended by hundreds of scientists, citizen scientists, cetacean enthusiasts as well as students from all over the world. All qualified students will be considered including international students attending accredited educational institutions. This international conference is typically held in November in California during even numbered years.

Rissos

The Society for Marine Mammalogy Conference is attended by thousands of scientists and researchers from around the globe. This four-day international biennial conference typically is held in December in odd numbered years. The Conference location changes each time and has been held on nearly every continent.

Award Amounts

Student travel grants to the SMM Conference are $500.  Student travel grants to the ACS Conference are $250.

Eligibility

Applicants must be a current undergraduate or graduate student at an accredited institution.  Student ID and proof of conference registration is required.  Priority is given to students presenting at the conference.

Requirement For Recipients

Recipients of the awards may be asked to speak at a ACS-LA’s monthly meeting.

Congratulations to our 2019 recipients Stephanie Adamczak and Kaitlin Allen. Scientists attending the World Marine Mammal Conference (co-hosted by SMM) are very lucky to have the opportunity to see them present their outstanding research as oral presentations in Barcelona, Spain.
